Neoarchaean Felsic Volcanic Rocks in Tracing Evolution of Arcs: An Insight from Geochemical Data of the Gadag Schist Belt, Western Dharwar Craton

چکیده

Quartz porphyry of rhyolitic composition though a volumetrically minor is an important component metavolcanic successions in the Gadag schist belt western Dharwar craton. The quartz porphyries are calc-alkaline, enriched light rare earth elements (Lan/Ybn ~ 10–20) and with strong negative Eu anomaly (Eu/Eu*N=0.45–0.58). These features, coupled high K2O/Na2O (0.8 to 1.46), low Nb/Th (<1), Lan/Smn ratios 4.2 6.0, suggest that magma formed from melt generated by partial melting basaltic crust, subsequently modified crustal assimilation crystal fractionation. geological setting geochemical relationships magmatism at convergent plate tectonic setting. zircon U-Pb age 2588.0 ± 2.4 Ma for porphyry, together 2732 similar volcanic rocks Chitradurga further south, 2614 felsic volcanics Shimoga belt, point extended period episodic arc craton least ~144myr.

New Data on the Mineralogy of Chromite from the Nuggihalli Schist Belt, Western Dharwar Craton, Karnataka, India: Petrogenetic Implications

The occurrence of rhythmic layering of chromite and host serpentinites in the deformed layered igneous complexes has been noticed in the Nuggihalli schist belt (NSB) in the western Dharwar craton, Karnataka, South India. For this study, the chromitite rock samples were collected from Jambur, Tagadur, Bhakatarhalli, Ranganbetta and Byrapur in the NSB. Petrography and ore microscopic studies on c...

Geochemical Constraints on the Origin of Volcanic Rocks from the Andean Northern Volcanic Zone, Ecuador

Whole-rock geochemical data on basaltic to rhyolitic samples from 12 volcanic centers are used to constrain the role of continental crust in the genesis of magmas formed beneath the anomalously wide subduction-related volcanic arc in Ecuador. Relatively homogeneous, mantle-like, isotopic compositions across the arc imply that the parental magmas in Ecuador were produced largely within the mantl...

Distribution and geochemical variations among paleogene volcanic rocks from the north-central Lut block, eastern Iran

The Lut block in eastern Iran is a micro-continental block within the convergent orogen between the Arabian, Eurasian and Indian plates. Large areas of the north-central, eastern, and western Lut block are covered by volcanic rocks of Paleogene, Neogene and Quaternary age.  Peak volcanic activity took place in the north-central part of the Lut block during the Eocene, and then dramatically decr...
